Guilty!

Convicted of crimes against humanity.

But will he actually hang? Will this make sectarian violence in Iraq worse, or will it unify the nation in a great catharsis?

Thoughts from anyone?

What nation? No, I fear that his (well deserved) hanging would at best do nothing and at worst provide Baathist insurgents a fresh reason to kill more of their own (and our) people. It has gotten to the point where I'm almost afraid to even think of Iraq, since I don't want to be depressed when I can't figure out even a single strategy for halting the slide, let alone one for making some sort of progress.

The only I think that could unite them is an old style crusade complete with knights on horseback.
Even that would probably only last a week or two.

Perhaps if you gave them space for a century or two enough of them would come around to make democracy work, but for now each group wants to be the one who gets to abuse the others and call it government. As for if killing Saddam will cause more violence from what I've seen most of them don't need a reason to make violence. Having a reason can be good for PR, but other than that reasoning is unnecessary.
