I was originally going to live-blog President Bush's immigration speech, but after a first run-through, it came across as complete rubbish. So instead let this be an open thread on your thoughts about the speech!
While I don't like the policy of putting National Guard troops on the border, I can accept it as a political necessity if it helps secure Republican votes in the House (which, of course, assumes the Senate ever passes a version first). An ugly and unfortunate political necessity but, then again, that's how sausage making works.
So far the only fresh polling data I've seen is a CNN snap poll that shows support for the idea of National Guard on the border.
Yes, largely unmilitarized and largely unprotected as attested to by the large numbers of illegals who cross every day. Protecting our borders is what our military is for, not making Iraq and the world safe for Islamo-fascism. Put the National Guard on the border and in an active role, not a supporting one.
